Intro

Health care is gaining attention across the nation and momentum for change is growing.  Consumer Voices for Coverage is supporting state-based networks to bring the views of real people into the discussions.

Consumer Voices for Coverage is a national initiative of Community Catalyst and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to support the important role that state-based consumer health advocacy can play in promoting innovative and comprehensive health reform efforts at the state and national levels.

Through a competitive application process, consumer health coalitions in 12 states were selected to receive grants of up to $750,000 over three years beginning February, 1, 2008.  The program seeks to empower the consumer voice in each of these states to become a critical force in the health care reform policy-making process.  By strengthening each of the state networks through an infusion of new resources, policy support and technical assistance, we hope to help shape the growing movement of reform with momentum and successes that lead to health care coverage for all.

Based in part on the findings of a Community Catalyst report, Consumer Health Advocacy: A View from 16 States, which demonstrated that an organized consumer voice is critical in protecting or expanding quality health care coverage and access, the Consumer Voices for Coverage initiative is helping each of the state consumer groups build strong and robust advocacy infrastructures to educate policy-makers and opinion leaders about the need for comprehensive health care coverage.

Currently, Consumer Voices for Coverage is working in the following twelve states:
